Commissioner for the Ethiopian Environment, Forest and Climate Change Excellency prof. Fekadu Beyene has made a discussion with the ambassador of the royal Danish embassy her Excellency Karin Poulsen this morning. The objective of the discussion was to brief the commissioner on areas of cooperation the Danish government and people are providing to the Ethiopian Green Development efforts in general. The discussion also includes the thematic issues related to;
- The support of Denmark for the Ethiopian green Economy efforts especially of the CRGE.
- The way to sustain the already existing partnership called P4G (public private partnership for sustainable development and growth)
- Current areas of focus of the commission following the national reform so as to allign with the Danish support programs and;
- Institutional capacity building and sustainable support.
In a brief but detailed discussion, it was mentioned that Denmark is one of the first countries that has given practical response to support the Ethiopian climate resilient green economy (CRGE). The Bonga carbon stock project which is a sustainable livelihood support programme is also one of the interventions from the Danish government that enables the community increase their income.
Ethiopia and Denmark (Kenya, Vietnam, chili and Netherlands are also members) are also the members to the global climate action iniciative refered as P4G. P4G (Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030) is a new initiative that aims to develop concrete public-private partnerships at scale to deliver on the SDGs and the Paris Climate Agreement. As a global forum, P4G brings together business, government, and CSOs in public-private partnerships to bolster innovations and solutions in five major categories of sustainability: food and agriculture, water, energy, cities and circular economy. P4G offers funding, facilitation, and recognition to its partners at global, regional, and national levels.
The P4G global hub works with country partners, who have set up national platforms to direct P4G outreach activities within that
country. Ethiopia is a country partner who in 2017 launched its national platform- this platform is housed within the Ministry of
Environment, Forest and Climate Change. The objective of this national platform is to achieve Ethiopia’s Climate Resilience and Green Economy(CRGE) strategy goals and promote public-private partnerships in pursuit of the countries green growth. The Ethiopia national platform is actively working to engage government officials, business leaders, academia, and civil society into the conversation committed to transitioning into green growth.
Hearing to the descriptions, Excellency prof. Fekadu Beyene told the team that it is very great to hear from the Ambassador on their support to the Ethiopian green development efforts. Commissioner also told the team that all the development interventions from Denmark are directly alligned to our development plans and they are all welcome. Further, couple of questions were asked from both sides to better figure out the best ways of working together ahead and have been well discussed.
