Ethiopia is taking part in One Planet Summit, took place at the UNEP in Nairobi, Kenya. An Ethiopian delegation led by Prof. Fekadu Beyene, Commissioner for Environment, Forestry and Climate Change were attending the Summit.
Its first time for being hosted on the African Continent, the One Planet Summit is a Summit chiefly organized by the French President, Emmanuel Macron in collaboration with the United Nations, World Bank and the Bloomberg Philanthropies. Africa being at the epicenter of this (3rd) summit, promoting renewable energy and fostering resilience, adaptation and biodiversity have been accorded special attention. All African government officials with environment related portfolio were attending the Summit.
It was expected that the summit, collective efforts and commitments made will be geared towards stepping up collective action for climate adaptation, protection of biodiversity and energy transition in Africa.
While Presidents Emmanuel Macron and Uhuru Kenyatta presided over the Summit, Heads of State and Governments who were involved in the One Planet Summit process were expected to attend the Summit. UN Secretary General Antonio Gutiérrez and World Bank President, Jim Yong Kim were also attended the summit.
