The Global Environmental Facility (GEF) in collaboration with Ethiopian Environment, Forest and Climate Change (EFCCC)has arranged a two days national dilogue to Ethiopia.
The Global Environmental Facility(GEF)is a global organization which has its head office at the US-Washington DC and is working on financing climate actions world wide. GEF collects its fund from diffrent sources like governments, conglomerates/campanies or any other financing bodies in their response to climate action. GEF is dispersing the climate action fund to countries that submit propsals of action on climate change.
The main objectives of this dialogue are;
- To disseminate the new programming direction and policies of the seventh phase(GEF-7) to all stakeholders; and
- To identify potential projects in line with the ethiopian national priorities and GEF priorities.
Diffrent stakeholders has taken part in the national dialogue and they are all well-versed with the new programming direction and policies of GEF-7. Participants include;
- Development Partners based in Ethiopia
- Ministries, Institutions and Agencies
- Sub CSOs, NGOs and Private Sectors and;
- Members of the GEF National Office.
Ethiopia is one of the most beneficeries of GEF funds in Africa. The funds are focused in the areas of,
- Climate change
- Biodiversity and;
- Land degradation
So far Ethiopia has been funded from GEF about a total of 421.76 Million USD in 73 diffrent projects and for the last 6 phases.
Studies has been presented both from the Ethiopian side and from GEF. Following the presentations, discussions have been held.
Experts from gef office has also present on GCD-7 general programme and priorities they have for Ethiopia with in the frame work of GEF policies.The training will stay from 18-19 Feb. 2019.
